Strahan

Strahan is a picturesque fishing town in the Macquarie Harbour near the mouth (Hells Gates) of the calm waters of the Gordon River. The popular tourist destination was gazetted in 1883 and named after Governor Sir George Cumine Strachan. The Gordon River flows through a lush World Heritage Wilderness which can only be seen by boat and is home to Sarah Island, one of the oldest convict settlements in Australia.
